Our history

Going back in history, the establishment of the Public Service Club in 1922 was aimed at providing recreational and social facilities for senior colonial-era civil servants. During that time, this was the place where the then all-white officials would fraternize with the governor and away from settlers. Its original name was the European Civil Servants Club of Chamberlain Road, Nairobi.

However, shortly before independence, the European Civil Servants Club changed its name and started admitting the first Africans who had been recruited to join the civil service. Jeremiah Kiereini, Bill Kimutai Martin, Peter Shiyukah, Duncan Ndegwa and Geoffrey Kariithi were among the pioneer African members of the Civil Service Club, as it was once known before members voted on 6th February 1973 and changed the name to Public Service Club to accommodate heads of Parastatals.

Today, we appreciate the transformation the Public Service Members Club has undergone. It has expanded its wings to accommodate members who have demonstrated their willingness to abide by its regulations.
